Willie Chaput

Wilbert Chaput, 95, of Langdon, ND, passed away Friday, July 28, 2023, at his home in Langdon.

Wilbert “Willie” was born July 20, 1928, in Langdon, ND to Mederic and Laura (Marcelin) Chaput, the youngest of 10 children. He grew up on the family farm and attended school at St. Alphonsus in Langdon. On November 18, 1947, he was united in marriage to Ruth Fischer at St. Alphonsus Church. They made their home on the same family farm where they raised their five children. Along with farming, Willie also drove school bus for over 30 years. He enjoyed playing cards, especially pinochle; working in his vegetable garden; camping; and traveling. He said his rosary every evening with Mother Angelica, so his family knew not to call from 8:30-9:00.  Willie looked forward to visiting with his friends and family and went to many activities to watch his grandchildren. He was a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus.

Surviving Willie are his children: Kim (Terian) Chaput of Langdon, ND, Bonnie (Johnny) Walker of Grand Forks, ND, Sherry (Eddie) Huber of Devils Lake, ND, Joann (Jim) Remer of Grand Forks, ND; grandchildren: Jason (Lexi) Chaput, Amanda (Jason) Seykora, Marie (Bill) Mack, Beckie (Adam) Erdmann, Carrie (Nyk) Hope, Alex (Vanessa) Chaput, Justin (Ken) Walker, Brittany Walker, Michael Huber, Stacy (Kolby) Wolf, Michele Remer and Jessica Remer; 20 great-grandchildren; brother Mederic Jr.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding Willie in death were his parents; wife Ruth; son Stacey; grandson Louis; and siblings: Eva Moos, Leona Johnson, Sylveo Chaput, Hilda Wilhelmi, Annette Prince, George Chaput, Marie Everson, and Thomas Chaput.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 4, 2023, at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Langdon, ND. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service at the church on Thursday, August 3, 2023. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Langdon.
