Thelma M. Hartje, 93, formerly of St. Thomas, ND passed away Monday, March 25, 2019 at the Unity Medical Center, Grafton, ND. Funeral service will be held on Monday, April 1, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, rural St. Thomas, ND. Visitation will be held Sunday, March 31st from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. with a 5:00 p.m. prayer service at the Askew Funeral Home, Cavalier, ND.

Thelma M. Bernhoft was born August 3, 1925 at Cavalier, ND to Louis and Margaret (Jonasson) Bernhoft. She grew up in the Cavalier area and graduated from Cavalier High School. Thelma then worked at the Pembina County Courthouse and Salaba Drug in Cavalier. On June 21, 1944, she married W. Keith “Bud” Hartje at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. After their marriage they lived and farmed in the St. Thomas area.

She was a proud member of the Blue Ribbon Homemakers Club and also taught Sunday School and was Christian Growth Chairperson at St. Paul’s Lutheran.

She is survived by her children: Julee Egerer, Phoniex, AZ, Michael (Cindy) Hartje, Cavalier ND, Kevin (Deena) Hartje, Fort Collins, CO, Debra (James) Sloey, Santa Maria, CA; grandchildren: Justin (Ashley) Egerer, Anne Marie (Phil) Bakke; Jeremy (Angela) Hartje and Chad (Eunhye) Hartje; Kaleb (Christina) Hartje, Margaret Hartje (Nathan Peila), and Luke (Rhea Kay) Hartje; Colby Hartje, Christopher (Bethlyn) Sloey, Jonathan (Stacy) Sloey, Nicholas (Cecilia) Sloey, Adam (Courtney) Sloey. Also survived by her great-grandchildren: Addison and Emerson Egerer, Chelsea Bakke, Cameron (Emily) Bakke; Morgan, Tristan, James, and Isabella Rose Hartje; Knox Hartje; Landon, Logan, Eli Hartje, Christian and Vincent Sloey, Nathan and Andrew Sloey, Addie and Charles Sloey, Ellis Sloey; her sister, Joyce Johnson; great-great grandchildren: Laila and Lola Thomas and Tristan Bakke.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Keith “Bud”; siblings: Sophia Magnusson, Olive Nelson, Lou “Buddy” Bernhoft.
