Svanfridur "Lolo" Lorenz

Svanfridur “Lolo” Lorenz, 101, of Langdon, ND, passed away Monday, March 26, 2018, at Maple Manor Care Center in Langdon.

Svanfridur “Lolo” was born July 14, 1916, to Thomas and Soffia (Kristjanson) Thomasson in Edinburg, ND. She attended school in Gardar, ND, and went on to get her teaching certificate from Mayville State Teachers College and also took some business classes at Aaker’s Business College. She taught school in Pembina, Walsh and Ramsey counties before her marriage on June 5, 1941, to Victor Lorenz at St. Edward’s Catholic Church in Nekoma, ND. After they got married, they moved to Denver, CO, for a short time. In 1942, they returned to the Nekoma area to live on the family farm where they raised their family. They moved to Langdon in 1966 when Victor retired from farming. In 2006, they moved to Wheatland Estates and to Maple Manor in 2009. They were fortunate to enjoy 29 winters in Mesa, AZ. Victor passed away December 8, 2009, after 68 years of marriage.

Lolo had a strong faith, a good sense of humor and a positive attitude. People rarely heard her complain. She loved to play bridge and other cards games, dance, golf, and bowl. She was a wonderful seamstress, a good cook and baker and volunteered at the school in Nekoma and other community events. Lolo was always up for a visit from friends or family. She was extremely proud of her Icelandic heritage. She was a 4-H leader, belonged to Homemakers Club and was a member of altar societies at both St. Edward’s Church in Nekoma and St. Alphonsus Church in Langdon.

Surviving Lolo are her children: Gerald (Yvonne) of Doylestown, PA, Vickie (James) Theis of Carmel, IN, Thomas of Las Vegas, NV, and Michael (Jill) of Henderson, NV; eight grandchildren: Anthony, Mark, & Adam Lorenz, Michelle & John Theis, Stephanie Theis Tebbe, and Max & Nick Lorenz; thirteen great-grandchildren, and sister Pauline “Patsy” Foseide of Edinburg, ND. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Victor, and four siblings: Johann (Joe), Kristjan (Kris), Marguerite (Mickey) Thomasson and Katrin (Babe) Flanigan.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 28, 2018, at St. Alphonsus Parish Center in Langdon, ND. Visitation will begin one hour prior to service time at the Parish Center.

Lolo was such treat to visit when I was in Langdon. Mom always enjoyed seeing her good friend and the two of them didn't stop smiling while we were there. I will miss her sweetness, but at the same time I'm happy she can be with Vic again. I have fond memories of going to homemakers meetings at Lolo's house with mom and many memories of when Lolo bowled. She always made me smile. I have a few of the best pictures of mom and Lolo the last few years. I will miss her. Prayers for all of you

I have so many good memories of Lolo. Going way back to going to her house with mom for homemakers to golfing with her in Langdon and Arizona to bowling at G and M Lanes. I will very much miss visiting with her. Heaven has truly gained another angel. Sincere condolences to Lolo's family.

My brothers and sisters in Christ. I join you in celebrating the life of Lola Lorenz. She was an example of a woman whose life followed the words of Mother Theresa's quote: "If you want to bring peace and happiness to the world go home and love your family." Let us join hands and walk each other to our Home!! Rita

Lolo's lovely smile, her generous, indomitable spirit and unfailingly quick wit made our world a warmer, more hospitable place. She was cherished by all of us lucky enough to have known her and will be remembered always. Chris, Tory and I send our condolences and love to Patsy and dear cousins Jerry, Vickie, Tom, Mike and your families.

It is never easy to say goodbye to a mom. I always remember Lolo with a smile on her face. She and Vic were dear friends of mom and dad, Klink and Juletta Kleinschmidt, and shared happy times together farming and bowling. My condolences to the family.
