Stanford Slama

Stanford Slama, 93, of Milton, ND passed away on Friday, October 16, 2015, at his home.
Stanford J. Slama was born May 29, 1922 to Edward and Katherine (Spivak) Slama near Milton, ND. Stanford attended school and then entered the US Marines in 1942 serving in the Second Division in the Pacific Theater alongside his brother, Raymond. After the war, Stanford returned to Milton and started farming. He and Chelda Hell were united in marriage on June 20, 1949 at Mt. Carmel, ND.
Stanford enjoyed music, and along with singing, he could play the accordion, guitar, and mouth organ. Stan and his friend, Olin Olson, entertained at the area nursing homes and the senior center for many years. He also enjoyed playing cards and was an avid curler and helped start the Milton Curling Club. Stan was a member of St. Clothilde’s Catholic Church in Milton and served as a trustee for many years. He was also a member of Hilltoppers Senior Citizens Club, American Legion Post #179, and on the fire department in his younger years.
Stanford is survived by his children: David of Devils Lake, Wayne (Gayle) of Langdon, Robert of Rancho Santa Margarita, CA, and Cheri (Steve) Stabo of Edinburg, ND; grandchildren: David Slama Jr., Reann Slama, Corey Slama, Jeremy (Heidi) Slama, Shawn Slama, Veronica (Jon) Webb, Dakota Slama, Tim (Kristin) Stabo, Evan Stabo, Chad Stabo; 13 great-grandchildren; and sister Mae McKay. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Chelda; siblings: Lillian (Orville) Balsdon, Raymond Slama, Alvin (Rita) Slama; brother-in-law James McKay and daughter-law Claudia Slama.

Services will be held Tuesday, October 20, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church of Langdon, ND. Visitation will be held on Monday, October 19, 2015 from 5-7:00 p.m. with a 6:45 Rosary and 7:00 prayer service at Brooks Funeral Home of Langdon, ND. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to service time at the church on Tuesday.
Interment – St. Clothilde’s Cemetery, Milton, ND

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be directed to St. Clothilde’s Catholic Cemetery in Milton, ND.
