Robert J. Bata

Robert Bata, 86, of Langdon, ND, passed away Saturday, May 11, 2019, at his home in Langdon.

Robert James was born July 30, 1932, at Dresden, ND, to Frank and Julia (Berger) Bata. He attended school in Waterloo Township and St. Alphonsus School then joined the US Air Force. After being honorably discharged, he returned to the Langdon area to farm. Bob and Betty Wilhelmi were married June 28, 1956, at St. Alphonsus Church in Langdon. They farmed and raised their family just west of Langdon. Bob and Betty moved in to Langdon after retiring, but Bob continued to help on the farm. They were able to spend 27 years wintering in Arizona after retiring.

Bob was a honest and hard-working man who had a great sense of humor. He enjoyed playing cards, fishing, reading westerns, hiking in Arizona, camping when his kids were younger, and attending the many activities that his grandchildren participated in. He looked forward to his morning cup of coffee and frequent crop tours around the Langdon area. He was a past township officer and a member of the rural fire department, Eagles Aerie #3454, and St. Alphonsus Catholic Church.

Robert is survived by his children: Valerie (Randy) Darling of Langdon and Kevin (Sue) Bata of Langdon; grandchildren: Janelle (Jason) Askvig, Rachael Darling, Coy Bata, Will Bata and Mariah Bata; great-grandchildren Westin & Gavin Askvig; sister-in-law Edna Bata and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Betty; and siblings: Margaret (Louie) Breyer, Mary Bata, Frank “Bud” (Bette) Bata, and Joseph Bata.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, May 17, 2019, at St. Alphonsus Church in Langdon, ND. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service on Thursday, May 16, 2019, at Brooks Funeral Home in Langdon, and for one hour prior to service time at the church on Friday.
