Richard "Dick" Thomson, 90, Cavalier, ND passed away Thursday, February 23, 2017 at the Pembina County Memorial Hospital, Cavalier, ND. Funeral service will be held Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at the Askew Funeral Home, Cavalier, ND. Visitation will be held Monday, February 27th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Askew Funeral Home, Cavalier, ND.
John Richard Thomson was born June 17, 1926, at Cavalier, ND to John and Rowena (Veum) Thomson. He grew up in Cavalier and graduated from Cavalier High School. Dick served in the U.S. Marine Corp during World War II in the Pacific Theatre. After his discharge from the service he returned home and helped his dad on the farm.
On April 2, 1952, he married Shirley I. Schluchter at Cavalier. He owned and operated Cavalier Texaco and worked for Mayo Construction. In 1962, the family moved to California and returned to Cavalier in 1977. He then continued to work for Mayo Construction until his retirement. Dick also farmed and raised cattle.
He is survived by his sons: Jim (Deanna) Thomson, Jeff Thomson, Bob Thomson, Bill Thomson, Dan (Marrisa) Thomson; granddaughter, Janeal (Kevin) VanCamp, and great-grandson, Brady.
Preceding him in death were his parents; sister, Shirley Thomson, his wife, Shirley on November 16, 2004, and son, John Thomson.
