Ray Peterson, 83, of Pembina, ND passed away Thursday, September 15, 2016 at the Lutheran Sunset Home in Grafton, ND. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 17, 2016 at the Nelson-Askew Funeral Home in Walhalla, ND. Burial will be at Hillside Cemetery, Walhalla, ND.

Ray was born in Cavalier County near Milton, ND on September 12, 1933 to Oscar and Dorothy Peterson. He was married 40 years to his wife, Mary. Ray served in the US Army from 1954-1956 as a Field Artillery Specialist. He received a national Defense Service Medal. He served in the US Army Reserves for six years. Ray was a top-notch mechanic. He worked at Soeby Ford Motor Company in Walhalla for many years. He worked at Motor Coach Industries for 29 years in Pembina, ND until his retirement in 2008. Ray accepted Christ as his Savior and loved the Lord. He was baptized at the Pembina Valley Baptist Church in Winkler, MB, Canada. He was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church in Grand Forks, ND, Pastor Milfred Hughes. Ray loved the Lord and his Bible. He is with Jesus now!

Ray is survived by his wife, Mary, of 40 years; daughter Aleta; step-daughter Suellen (Bill) McFarland of Placentia, CA; Mary’s two sons Pastor Fidel (Mary) Hughes of Mesa, AZ & Pastor Milfred (Pamela) Hughes of Grand Forks, ND; seven grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; sisters Karen Bourbanis & Lois Peterson; brothers Lloyd & Clifford Peterson; and a host of friends & many relatives. Ray was preceded in death by parents Oscar & Dorothy Peterson and sisters Mildred Campbell & Evelyn “Evie” Nelson.

The family would like to thank everyone for their love, help, support and prayers during Ray’s illness.
