Norma Nason, 92, passed away Tuesday, June 20, 2017, at the Pembina County Memorial Hospital surrounded by her loved ones. Memorial service will be held Monday, June 26, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at the Vikur Lutheran Church, Mountain, ND. Visitation will be held for one hour before the time of the service. Burial will be held in the Mountain Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to your favorite charity.
Norma Kristine was born November 30, 1924, on the family farm near Mountain, ND, to Arni V. and Siguros (Halldorson) Johnson. She grew up in the Mountain area and graduated from Mountain High School in 1943. She graduated in 1946 from the Deaconess School of Nursing in Grand Forks, through the Public Health's Cadet Nurse Program.
She married Irving L. Nason in 1946, and they had three children, Patricia, Phyllis, and Kevin. As an army spouse, she worked in 13 hospitals in nine states.
In 1958, she moved back to Mountain with the children. Her parents helped to the raise the children when she worked at the Pembina County Memorial Hospital, Cavalier, ND, as the first Director of Nursing. In 1964, she moved to Roundup, Montana, to become the hospital administrator and director of nursing at the Roundup Memorial Hospital where she worked for eight years, she was Director of Nursing at Riverton, WY, and then returned to Cavalier to become the Assistant Administrator at Pembina County Memorial Hospital. She worked for Lutheran Hospitals and Homes Society for many years when she retired in 1986 to care for her parents at the family farm. She made many house calls and did private duty nursing in Pembina County.
She was a member of Vikur Lutheran Church, Mountain, where she had been confirmed in the Icelandic language. She was a 4-H leader, Borg Auxiliary member, Pembina County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary member. She enjoyed baking and was renowned for her Icelandic brown bread that she donated to bake sales for the Borg Auxiliary, Pembina County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Faith in Action, Vikur Church and community events.
Norma is survived by daughters: Pat (Dennis) Morrison, Cavalier, ND, Phyllis (Don) Majerus Bozeman, MT; son, Kevin (Jolene) Nason, Lakeland, FL; grandchildren: Erika Kortes, Cavalier, Matthew (Jane) Majerus, Seattle, WA, Amie Majerus, Bozeman, MT, Mandie Majerus, Seattle, WA, Nick Nason, Lakeland, FL; great grandchildren: Alex Watson, Cavalier, Summer Schluchter, Fargo, ND, Talon Poyner, Fargo, ND, Sunny Schluchter, Grand Forks, Teah Poyner, Fargo, Dylan Majerus, Seattle, WA, Ethan Majerus, Seattle, WA, Aidan Majerus-Belcher, Bozeman, MT; niece, Pam O'Connor, Chicago, IL; nephews: Robert (Nancy) Johnson ,Spring, TX, and Ray (Denise) Johnson, San Antonio, TX; great-nieces: Molly O'Connor, Rebecca Gogues, and Sarah Johnson; great-nephew, Christopher Johnson
She was preceded in death by her parents, Arni and Rose Johnson; brother, Vernon Marino Johnson; son-in-law Dick Baier; granddaughter, Kirstin Poyner; grandson, Grant Poyner.
