Walhalla

Michael T. "Mike" Johnson, 76, of Walhalla, North Dakota, passed away Tuesday, September 9, 2025, at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, North Dakota. Visitation will be held Wednesday, September 17, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. memorial service at the Walhalla Lutheran Church, Walhalla, ND.

Michael “Mike” Terry Johnson was born April 9th, 1949, to Jack and Rose Johnson in Walhalla, ND. He attended St. Boniface Catholic School through the 6th grade and then Walhalla Public School, until his Junior year. Following that he went onto job core, in Bismarck. It was after that his brother-in-law, Sid, took him under his wing and got him into construction. On April 2, 1977, he married the love of his life, Kim Smith, and they made their home in Walhalla, ND, for the past 48 years. They were looking forward to celebrating 50 years of marriage coming up. Together they raised two sons, Jared and Jeremy, as well as two sons from a previous marriage, Chris and Warren. Mike worked for various contractors operating heavy equipment, until he started his own construction business, Arrowhead Construction Co. in 1981 which he operated for 33 years. In 2014, he entered full retirement but Mike could NEVER completely retire as he was never one to just stop working which led him to start hauling for S&S Grain in 2015 up until present.

Mike loved his family first. All of his interests always involved his family including those that weren’t family, but soon became family one way or another, whether it be fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, camping, horseback riding, ranger rides, or tinkering on stuff in the shop. He was always on the go and could rarely be found sitting still. Mike had many things in his life that brought him great joy. Some of the very many highlights were elk hunting with his dad, attending sporting events and activities for his family, and fishing with his kids and grandkids, while passing down his wisdom and skills, instilling in them how to obtain “THE INDIAN LIMIT!!” Mike also had his fair share of challenges that came along with raising boys. For example one of the pickups that was recently purchased suffered a gunshot wound to the transmission by Jared, then a year later Kimmy Jo, or better known as “Babe” did it again to a different pickup! With all of these challenges his love and patience never wavered a bit! Above all, spending time with his family was the utmost important and made that a priority in his life.

Mike is survived by his wife, Kim; sons: Jared (Jill Estenson) Walhalla, Jeremy (Shawna Ferguson) Grand Forks, Chris and Warren. Grandkids include: Jacob (Chelsea Rintala) of Walhalla, Jaxen (Adysn Himley) of Fargo, Jaelyn and Jerik Johnson, Walhalla;  Jacee and Jax Johnson, Walhalla; Sammy Jo Miller, Williston, ND; Jesse Johnson (Victoria) Parker, CO; Jordan Johnson, Roseau, MN; Maddy Bartlette, Walhalla; and several great grandkids; his siblings: Beverly Goulet, Bismarck, ND; Mryna (Leon) Meidinger, Bismarck, ND; Linda (Robert) Olgeirson,Gardar, ND; Dale (Terri) Johnson, Langdon, ND; Wendy (Don) Gibney, Walhalla, ND. As well as many nieces nephews.
