Melvin L. Jensen, 92, of Osnabrock Township passed away Friday, June 23, 2017 at the Maple Manor Care Center in Langdon, ND.

Melvin L. Jensen was born July 6, 1924 in Osnabrock Township to Martin and Olena Anna (Anderson) Jensen. He grew up in Osnabrock Township and attended the Osnabrock Township Consolidated School. In 1942, he graduated from Nekoma High School. Melvin then attended N.D.S.U. for one year and was then drafted into the U.S. Army. He served in the European Theatre and fought in the “Battle of the Bulge”. After his discharge from the service, he returned to Osnabrock Township where he farmed and raised shorthorn cattle until his retirement. While raising livestock he received many awards in various competitions. In his pastime, Melvin enjoyed bowling, listening to music, political talk shows, having coffee with friends, and driving around the country looking at crops.

Melvin was a member of the Highland Church Board, Osnabrock Farmers Elevator Board, Langdon Farmers Union Oil Board, VFW, American Legion and the United Lutheran Church. Melvin also served as Osnabrock Township Assessor for 62 years.

On October 24, 1954, he married Della Myers at the United Lutheran Church in Langdon. She survives him as do his children: Diane (Bill) Wenzel of Langdon, ND, Karen (Ed) Barth of Cincinnati, OH, and Ron (Joan) Jensen of Grand Forks, ND; grandchildren: Benjamin Wenzel, Bridget (Justin) Johnson, Patti (Kevin) Antil, Chad & Hope Barth, and Mary, Ryan, Curt, & Lisa Jensen; great-grandchildren: Austin Wenzel, and Harper & Alivia Johnson. Preceding him in death were his parents and brothers Arnold and Oliver Jensen.

Funeral services will be held Friday, June 30, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at the United Lutheran Church in Langdon, ND. Visitation will be held Thursday, June 29, 2017 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service at the United Lutheran Church. Burial will be held at the Highland Cemetery, rural Nekoma.
