Maria E. Cano

     Maria E. Cano, 65, of Cavalier, ND passed away Friday, November 29, 2019 at the St. Joseph’s Hospital, Park Rapids, MN. Funeral service will be held Wednesday, December 4, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at the Cavalier Evangelical Free Church, Cavalier, ND. Visitation will be held Tuesday, December 3rd from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service at the church. Burial will be held in the Cavalier Cemetery.

     Maria Esther DeLeon was born March 7, 1954 at Raymondville, Texas, to Jose Ines and Julia (Ozuna) DeLeon. She attended school at Othello, WA. Following her schooling she worked as a farm laborer and at a convalescent home in Othello.

     On April 2, 1976, she married Jesus Cano at East Chicago, Indiana. After their marriage they lived in East Chicago, IN. In 1981, the family moved to Cavalier, ND. While in Cavalier she worked various jobs and received her associates degree in accounting. She was most recently the secretary at the Cavalier Evangelical Free Church.

     Maria especially loved helping the elderly and also enjoyed quilting.

     She Is survived by her husband, Jesus Cano; children: Ann (Hector) Jurado from General Bravo, Mexico and Nat (Gracy) Cano from Cavalier, ND; grandchildren: Nicole (Brandon) Terry, Damian Avila, Demetrius Avila, Diamente Cano; Hector Jurado, Jr. and Anhuar Jurado; and Greg Cano. Also survived are her siblings: Blanca Martinez, Dr. Conrado DeLeon, Felicitas Rodriguez, Sosten DeLeon, Oscar DeLeon, MariaElena Hernandez, Hermelinda Garza, Bisente DeLeon, Julie Arriaga, and Benny DeLeon.

     Preceding her in death were her parents; Jose Ines and Julia DeLeon; daughter, Elsa Cano; and brother, Jose Ines DeLeon, Jr.
