Leona I. Mondor

Leona I. Mondor, 82, of Langdon, ND, passed away Tuesday, July 24, 2018, at Maple Manor Care Center in Langdon, ND.

Leona Irene Lupien was born August 31, 1935, in Neche, ND, to Leon and Nellie (Glen) Lupien. She grew up and went to school in the Neche area before marrying George Mondor on July 15, 1953, in Neche. Leona worked at the grocery store in Neche, the Potato House, and in the beet industry. In 1972, she moved to Osnabrock, ND, to run the Osnabrock Café. She and her family then moved to Langdon in 1979 where she worked at At the Hop, the Stables restaurant, the Eagles, and Maple Manor Nursing Home as a CNA. She ended up moving back to Osnabrock in 1995 and worked at Noodles by Leonardo in Cando and at the Good Samaritan Center in Osnabrock. Leona also cleaned homes. She retired in 1999, and after George passed away in 2001, she moved back to Langdon.

Leona worked full-time and odd hours for many of her jobs. She was a hard worker and couldn’t just stay home. She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren whenever she had the chance. She loved gardening, flowers, baking and helping anyone and everyone. Leona was a member of Sts. Nereus and Achilleus Catholic Church in Neche, ND, while living in Neche. She later joined St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Langdon. She was also a member of Eagles Auxiliary #3454 in Langdon.

Surviving Leona are her children: Randy of Fargo, Doug (Jenny) of East Grand Forks, MN, Kenny (Janet) of Cavalier, Jon (Susan) of Langdon, Roger (Janil) of Benson, MN, Deb (Dale) Benaszeski of Ringle, WI, Diane (Keith) Lindenberg of Napolean, ND, Rita (Donnie) Calmes of Houghton, LA, Bonnie (Dean) Christianson of Langdon, and Patty (Kelly) Mondor of Walhalla; 30 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; siblings: Isabelle Bekkedahl, Judy Mondor, Shirley Miranda, Mary Lou Urlaub, Audrey Smith-Lupien, Larry Lupien, Dorothy Snell, Anita Blocker, Billy Lupien, Les Lupien; and sisters-in-law Ruthe Lupien and Edna Baldridge along with many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband George, two infant sons, two grandchildren, sister Diane Lupien, brother Jack Lupien, brothers-in-law Lloyd Mondor, Elroy Bekkedahl, Al Miranda and Bud Proudlove; and sisters-in-law Rose Rousseau and Lucille Proudlove.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 30, 2018, at St. Alphonsus Church in Langdon, ND. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. with a 6:00 p.m. prayer service on Sunday, July 29, 2018, at Brooks Funeral Home in Langdon. Visitation will also be one hour prior to service time at the church on Monday. Burial will be at Sts. Nereus and Achilleus Cemetery in Neche.
