Lawrence M. Kempel

Lawrence Kempel, 75, of Wales, ND, passed away Thursday, April 5, 2018, at his home in Wales.

Lawrence Michael was born August 2, 1942, to Michael and Sigrid (Walter) Kempel in Langdon, ND. He grew up and attended school in Wales. Larry worked construction for Kram Construction for many years. He also enjoyed mowing all around Wales including the church and cemetery areas. Larry loved feeding the birds and his dogs. He enjoyed playing and watching sports. He was a Dodger and Packers fan and also supported the Wales Bluejays and Langdon Cardinals. Larry loved music and was an excellent guitar player and singer. He was gifted with a great ear but had no formal music training. Larry could hear music and then just play it. He would often play all kinds of music for people at the bars in Wales. He also gave guitar lessons. Larry was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Wales, ND.

He is survived by brothers: Ken (Pat) of Starkweather, ND, Harold (Carol) of Langdon, ND, Daryl (Linda) of Langdon, ND; brother-in-law Loren Klemke; aunt Ida Mae Kempel; uncle Moritz Jonasson and nineteen nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Arlene Klemke, brother Vernon, grandparents Walter & Anna Kempel and Hannes & Lena Walter, two nephews Todd & Chad, and many aunts and uncles.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 on Tuesday, April 24, 2018, at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Langdon, ND. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 6:40 p.m. Rosary and a 7:00 p.m. prayer service on Monday, April 23, 2018, at Brooks Funeral Home in Langdon, ND. Visitation will also be one hour prior to service time at the church on Tuesday.
