UPDATE: Due to rain in the forecast, Laurence Simundson's Funeral will be held Friday, August 14, 2020, at 1:30 p.m. at the Askew Funeral Home in Cavalier, ND.

 

Laurence S. Simundson, 85, of Cavalier, ND, passed away Monday, August 3, 2020, at the Pembina County Memorial Hospital, Cavalier, ND.  A graveside service will be held Friday, August 14, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. at the Andvari Cemetery, rural Cavalier, ND.  Social distancing and masks are recommended. Please bring your lawn chairs.

            Laurence was born September 30, 1934, in LaMoure Township of Pembina County to Johannes and Antoinette (Klindt) Simundson.  He grew up in LaMoure Township and attended the Hilltop Country School.  Laurence graduated from Walhalla High School, and earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Mayville State Teachers College, where he played football.  He taught school in North Dakota, South Dakota, and Minnesota.  After teaching, he farmed in LaMoure Township and worked at American Crystal Sugar in Drayton, ND.  Laurence enjoyed caring for his cattle and raised them until the time of his passing.  He also enjoyed hunting in his spare time.  He was a member of the Peters Lutheran Church, Svold, ND.

            He is survived by his brothers:  Floyd Simundson, Shelton, WA, Dick (Lorraine) Simundson, Walhalla, ND, and Orville (Marlene) Simundson, Cavalier, ND.  Also surviving are his nephews and nieces and their families.

            Preceding him in death were his parents and an infant nephew.

Our sympathies to Laurence's family. I worked with Laurence at American Crystal Sugar. We had some good times and a lot of laughs. RIP my friend!!!

Mr. Simundson was my 6th grade teacher in Rolla, North Dakota. I remember his endless patience with us as his students. Condolences to his family.

Mr Simundson was our freshman English teacher in Rugby in 1963. A very quiet, soft spoken and gentle man. Rest In Peace.
