Larry J. Dumas, 100, of Walhalla, ND passed away Friday, March 6, 2020 at the Pembilier Nursing Center, Walhalla, ND. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, March 10, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Boniface Catholic Church, Walhalla, ND. Visitation will be held Monday, March 9th from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. rosary and prayer service at the church.
Larry J. Dumas was born March 6, 1920 at Langdon, ND to Albert and Lorene (Schwartz) Dumas. He grew up in Walhalla, where he spent his entire life. Larry then served in the Civilian Conservation Corps. During WWII, Larry served in the OSS (Office of Strategic Service) as a Guard Patrolman and Rifle Expert in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. While in Walhalla, he worked for area farmers and also worked at the Walhalla Creamery and Motor Coach Industries in Pembina until his retirement. In his spare-time he enjoyed raising poultry.
In August of 1949, Larry married Lorraine Reidhammer at Langdon, ND. After she passed away, he later married Ida Rousseau.
He is survived by his children: Duane (Linda) Dumas, Hoople, ND, LaVerne (Sandy) Dumas, Alma, CO, Dennis (Cynthia) Dumas, West Fargo, ND, Wanda (Steve) Wilhelmi, Westland, MI, and Penny (Tim) Stegman, Cavalier, ND.; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren. Also surviving are his siblings: Sally O’Hara, Richard Dumas, Marlene Hugley, Lucille Dahl, Robert Dumas, and Cecelia (Wallace) Lafferty; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents; wives, Lorraine and Ida; infant daughters, Diane and Candy; grandsons, Michael and Jamie; and siblings: Leo, Gilbert, Elaine, Beverly, Dorothy, and Albert Jr. “Buddy.”
