Joseph E. Casey age 93 of Pembina, ND., died on Friday, May 13, 2005, at the Wedgewood Manor, Cavalier, ND. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, May 18, 2005, at 10:30 a.m. at the Assumption Church, Pembina, ND. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 17th from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service at the Assumption Catholic Church. Burial in the Pembina Cemetery. Arrangements with Jensen-Askew Funeral Home, Cavalier, ND.
Joseph Edward Casey was born August 23, 1911, at Chatham, Ontario, Canada, he was one of four sons of John J. And Mary F. (Burke) Casey. The family settled in Milwaukee, Wisconsin where he took his schooling. In 1936, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving in the Coast Artillery until late 1940, when he was discharged and entered on duty with the U.S. Border Patrol and Derby Line Vermont.
On February 4, 1941, he marrried Anna Simo Sheehan at Rutland, Vermont; they enjoyed 40 years together until her death on December 24, 1981.
He re-enlisted in the Army in April 1944, against the wishes of the Border Patrol and served in the European Theatre as a combat engineer in the 5th Army, earning campaign ribbons for service in the Ardennes, Rhineland, and Central Europe. Upon discharge in January 1946, he returned to the Patrol. In 1951, he transferred to Pembina, ND. area as an immigration inspector, retiring as a supervisory inspector in 1971, with over 35 years government service.
Throughout his life he was an avid reader, particularly of history, and keenly interested in current affairs. He loved to travel and did so whenever he could. In later years he added model railroading to is activities and attended numerous conventions. A lifelong Catholic, he was active in parish affairs as long as his health permitted. In 2002, he moved to the Borg Memorial Home, Mountain, ND. He was a member in good standing of what is now termed �The Greatest Generation' an exemplary husband, father, and man.
He is survived and missed by sons, Larry Casey, Avon Lake, OH. and Thomas (Clare) Casey, Buffalo, WY., four grandchildren, Michael Casey, Brian Casey, Joseph W. Casey, and Cecilia Casey.
Joseph was also preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, John, Frank, and James Casey.
