Jean Kram

Jean Kram, 91, of Langdon, ND, passed away on Thursday, August 24, 2017, at Altru Health Center in Grand Forks, ND.

Eugenia M. Bergman was born September 10, 1925, in Langdon, ND, to Harry Joseph and Bertha (Koehmstedt) Bergman. She attended country grade school near Mt. Carmel and then Wales Public school when the family moved to Wales. She graduated from Wales High School in 1942 and then attended Valley City Teacher’s College, where she received a teaching certificate in 1943. Jean taught country school for three years. On June 24, 1946, she was united in marriage to Anton W. (Tony) Kram at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Wales. They made their home on a farm near Wales from 1946 until 2009, when she moved to Wheatland Estates in Langdon.

Jean volunteered as a 4-H leader for the Minto Hustler’s Club for 37 years. She was active in St. Michael’s Catholic Church and its Altar Society and Christian Mothers in Wales, Border Central Band Mothers, and Wales Ladies Whist Club. She enjoyed cooking, quilting and baking cookies for her grandchildren and especially liked playing card games with the family.

Jean is survived by her children: Harry (Jane) Kram of Grand Forks, ND, Paul (Nancy) Kram of Langdon, ND, Deb Hagen of Fargo, ND, Roger (Bernice) Kram of Fargo, ND and Shelly (Bob) Silletto of Grand Forks, ND; son-in-law Harvey (Patty) Metzger of Langdon, ND; 13 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by sisters: Puggy Kram of Langdon, ND and Patty Kessler of Williston, ND; brothers: Harold (Donna) Bergman of Chinook, MT and Jerry (Grace) Bergman of Grand Forks, ND; brother-in-law and sisters-in-law: Jake and Judy Kram of Langdon, ND, Yvette Kram of Walhalla, ND, Rosemary Kram of Minneapolis, MN, Marilyn (Ray) Borho of Langdon, ND and many nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents, husband Tony, daughter Judy Metzger, daughter-in-law Gail Kram, son-in-law Roger Hagen and brothers Mark and Tom Bergman.

She wished to thank all of the young, now middle-aged, people who were so respectful and helpful to her and Tony when they were on the farm in Wales. Special thanks also to her Wheatland friends for all their help during her illness.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 28, 2017, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Wales, ND. Visitation will take place from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service on Sunday, August 27, 2017, in Langdon at the St. Alphonsus Parish Center across the street from the St. Alphonsus Church. Burial will be at St. Michael's Catholic Cemetery, Wales, ND.
