Janet “Jan” Johnson, 76, of Grafton, ND, passed away peacefully on May 24, 2026. She was born on November 4, 1949, to John and Ruth (Olson) O’Hara.
Jan was lovingly known as the “Cake Lady,” creating beautiful wedding cakes and baked goods that brought joy to so many. She also served as an apartment manager for more than 30 years in Grafton, ND, and Stephen, MN. She was a wonderful friend to many and was always willing to help anyone in need, often giving selflessly to others.
Jan enjoyed baking, going to rummage sales, trips to the casino, and spending hours on the phone catching up with friends and family. She loved visiting, laughing, and making memories with the people she cared about most. She was rarely seen without her bright pink lipstick, her love of sparkles, and her signature rose-colored glasses, which reflected the way she chose to see the good in life and in others.
More than anything, Jan deeply loved and adored her two daughters, Cristie and Kelley. Her family meant everything to her, and she treasured every moment spent with them. She shared an especially close bond with her granddaughter, Lexi, and her great-grandson, Owen, brought endless joy and light to her life.
She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her daughter, Cristie (Dan) Mitzel of East Grand Forks, MN; grandchildren Lexi (Brett) Schurman of Walhalla, ND, and Nicholas Mitzel of Grand Forks, ND; great-grandson Owen Schurman; siblings Jolene (Kenny) Tollefson, Joanne (Norval) Staples, and Robbie O’Hara (Dow); along with many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved daughter, Kelley; her son-in-law, Todd Mattson; and her brother, Russell O’Hara.
Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Friday at the cemetery in Glasston, ND.
Her sparkle, love, and light will be remembered always.
