Helen Jean Burt, the daughter of Adolph and Agnes (Brosdahl) Jopp, was born on March 27, 1934 at Karlstad, MN. She was raised on the family farm and attended country school near her childhood home through the eighth grade, and later graduated from high school in Karlstad.
Helen then went on to Mayville State College and earned her teaching certificate. She taught country school for three years in the Park Center area.
Helen was united in marriage to Cameron L. Burt on August 15, 1954 at Karlstad, MN and to this union were born three children. She left teaching to help her husband run the farming operation and to be homemaker for her family. She later went to work for the Pembina County Memorial Hospital in Cavalier, and was a housekeeper there for thirteen years.
She belonged to the Cavalier Presbyterian Church and was very active in the United Presbyterian Women, and also as a church deacon.
Helen loved to garden, and loved to spend as much time as she could with her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter: Barbara (Dale) Wheeler of Cavalier, ND; her sons: Keith (Debra) Burt of Walhalla, ND and Kevin Burt of Ft. Pierre, SD; her five grandchildren: Jennifer, Carla, Jeremy, Eric, and Johnathon; her six great-grandchildren: Courtney, Tristan, Andrew, Jaden, Angela, and Logan; her brother: Richard (Yoshiko) Jopp of Wanatchee, WA; other relatives and friends.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Cameron in 2001; one sister: Hazel Baker; aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.
