Harvey F. Puppe, 83, of Hensel, North Dakota, passed away Thursday, August 14, 2025 at the Pembina County Memorial Hospital in Cavalier with his family by his side. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 23, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at the United Lutheran Church in Cavalier, ND. Visitation will be held on Friday, August 22nd from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Askew Funeral Home in Cavalier, ND. There will also be visitation at the church on Saturday for one hour before the time of service.
Harvey Puppe was born on May 22, 1942, in Grafton, ND. The son of the late Arthur and Bernice (Burtness) Puppe. Harvey grew up on the family farm near Hensel ND. He attended the Hartje rural grade school which was located between Hensel and St. Thomas, ND. He attended high school at the Walsh County Agriculture School in Park River, graduating in 1960. After graduation he returned to the family farm and farmed with his father. In 1966, Harvey took over the farming operation and continued to farm until he retired in 2009. He continued to be active with the farms daily operation by assisting his son, Jon.
He was united in marriage to Maureen O’Sullivan on November 26, 1971, in Burien, WA. They were blessed with two children, Kristi and Jon.
Harvey served on numerous community advisory farm-related boards such as 35 years on the North Star Co-Op board, 4-H Leader, St. Paul’s Lutheran Church financial secretary and sexton, Lodema township supervisor. In retirement, he enjoyed refurbishing old John Deere tractors, attending morning coffee with his local friends, tinkering in his shop, traveling, and mustering up any project his daughter in law, Jennifer had for him. His most cherished role was being Papa to Jon and Jennifer’s, 3 children, Mason, Maci, and Oscar.
He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Maureen Puppe; his daughter, Kristi Puppe (Dana Burt); his son, Jon Puppe (Jennifer); grandchildren; Mason, Maci, and Oscar Puppe; brother, Russell Puppe (Debbie), sisters-in-law, Michelle Puppe and Pam Puppe. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins, Maureen’s sisters and brothers, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Bernice Puppe; father and mother-in-law, Charles and Evelyn O’ Sullivan; brothers, Gerald and Dennis Puppe; sister, Alyce Waverly; sister-in-law, Marsha Puppe; and brother-in-law, Brian Waverly.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery.
