Harold J. Kopf, 82, of Cavalier, ND passed away Saturday, June 3, 2017 at his home in Mesa, AZ. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 24, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at the Trinity United Methodist Church, Cavalier, ND. Visitation will be held Friday, June 23rd from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. masonic service at the church.
Harold John Kopf was born April 23, 1935 at Walhalla, ND to Jack "John" and Bertha (Urlaub) Kopf. He grew up and attended school at Leroy, ND, graduating from Walhalla High School. From 1953 to 1955, he served in the U.S. Army.
On August 17, 1956, he married Shirley Peterson. Shirley passed away on July 18, 2005. He married Mary Switzer Jacobson on January 17, 2012.
He loved serving his customers in Pembina County as their Farmers Union Insurance agent for 50 years. His community service to Cavalier included 28 years as chairman to the Cavalier Recreation Committee, Tongue River Masonic Lodge member and past master for three different terms, 45 years on the volunteer fire department, commander of the Cavalier and Pembina County American Legion Posts, member of the Cavalier Country Club where he served as past president and did fund raising for signage, road, and other projects , past president of the Cavalier Curling Club, vice president of North Valley Homes, member of Cavalier Sports Boosters where he was involved in spear heading the effort to raise funds for the high school track.
He is survived by his wife, Mary; children: Kirk (Diane) Kopf, Gilbert, AZ, Eryca Rieland, St. Cloud, MN, son-in-law, Tom Rieland, St. Cloud, MN; grandsons: Skyler, Carter, and Theo Rieland, all of St. Cloud; step-children: Chad (Sue) Peterson, Grand Forks, ND, Tami (John) Devore, Kennedy, MN; 10 step-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Agnes "Midgy" Longtin, Muscatine, IA; sisters-in-law: Bernadine Kopf, Walhalla, ND, Mary Peterson, Cavalier, ND, Shirley Peterson, Brooklyn Park, MN; many nieces and nephews.
Also preceding him in death were his parents; brothers, Jim and George Kopf.
