Joyce and family, You have our deepest sympathies. Gene was like a big brother to me when I was growing up. I spent many hours at the Solberg farm and will never forget his attempts at trying to teach me how to block. I'm so glad that we had the chance to meet again at the Anderson reunion in 2019. It was a great day to get together with all our cousins. God's peace and comfort. Lee & Cynthia

Gene was a great friend while attending Mayville State back in the day. As life often does, close friendships drift away due to distance and lack of social media that exists today. After nearly fifty years, we reconnected in Lake Havasu, Arizona. Gene was still the same great guy that he was in our earlier days. We will miss Gene and Joyce as our "dining guides" in Arizona. Rest in Peace good friend. Condolences to Joyce and the family.

Mrs Solberg and family, my sincere condolences on your loss. Gene was my teacher and coach as well. I really wasnt very at football or as a student and I was kind of an angry kid as well. Gene didnt just teach me the 3Rs and blocking, he taught me life skills and how think and redirect my anger. I left Walhalla and joined the military. I like to think Ive had pretty good career, life and family. Many many thanks to Gene. When I came home on leave Id see Gene at the inn and wed talk and laugh about the good ol daze. Ill miss him and his advice. God bless and keep him, may he soar on wings of eagles.

To Genes family, my deepest sympathy. Gene was one of my teachers and football coach at Walhalla. He always had the patience and time to help anybody out with their problems, be it in the classroom or life. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction years ago Coach.
