Elsie Jean Schrader

Elsie Schrader, 99, formerly of Langdon, ND, passed away Friday, August 17, 2018, in Fargo, ND.

Elsie Jean Cilley was born September 10, 1918, to Clarence and Eliza (Dennison) Cilley in North Dakota and lived in Clyde, ND, for her childhood. She graduated from high school and continued her education at Valley City State Teacher’s College where she earned her teaching certificate. She went back later in life to college at UND and finished 2 more years to complete a 4 year degree for teaching. She started teaching in both the rural and town schools of Cavalier County. The last 29 years of her career, she taught the 7th & 8th grades at Langdon Public School. Elsie married Ernest Schrader on September 19, 1938, and they lived and raised their family near Langdon.

After Elsie retired from teaching, she did some traveling and substitute teaching as well as took some college classes and became an author. She also became a court-appointed Guardian Ad Litem in divorce custody cases for the Northeast Judicial District of North Dakota. In June of 2000, Elsie was inducted into the Langdon Educators Hall of Fame as one of the 12 charter members.

Surviving Elsie are her daughter, Veda (Brian) Campbell of Fargo, ND; grandchildren: Stephanie (Dave) Ouse, Sara, and Tina (Freddy) Fredrichs; nine great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death are two sisters, Florence (Harford) Hill and Wilma (Vern) Reinke; her parents; husband Ernest; daughter Valerie (William) Magyar, and grandson Robert Magyar.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 20, 2018, at United Methodist Church in Langdon, ND, with visitation starting one hour prior to service time at the church. Burial will be at Zion Cemetery, rural Langdon.
