Dorothy Jakoubek

Dorothy Jakoubek, 93, of Langdon, ND, passed away Tuesday, January 30, 2018, at Maple Manor Care Center in Langdon.

Dorothy was born December 27, 1924, to Lou and Ann (Bata) Jakoubek on the family farm near Dresden, ND. She attended school in Waterloo Township and South Dresden #4 and graduated from St. Alphonsus Catholic School in 1942. After graduation, she moved to Seattle, WA, where she worked for Boeing in the defense plant for about two years. She then returned to help on the farm before attended the Brown Institute in Minneapolis, MN. She returned to Langdon and worked at John Magnuson Insurance Agency and as a receptionist at REA. Dorothy then worked for the US Postal Service, a job she held for 20 years, before retiring to help take care of her mother in 1989.

Dorothy was very active on the farm, especially during harvest. She was very involved with her family and did a lot of babysitting. She was an avid reader and enjoyed visiting different casinos. After retiring, Dorothy enjoyed traveling to many states. Dorothy was the assessor for South Dresden Township for many years, a 4-H leader for the Dresden Dolls, and a member of the Eagles Auxiliary. She was a member of Holy Trinity Church in Dresden and their altar society as well as St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Langdon and their altar society. In 2013, Dorothy became a resident at Maple Manor Care Center in Langdon, and her family wishes to thank Maple Manor for the excellent care she received.

Surviving Dorothy are her siblings: Agnes Biewer of Fargo, ND, MaryAnn Geisen of Langdon, and Walter Jakoubek of Langdon, along with many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister Betty Muhs.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 7, 2018, at St. Alphonsus Parish Center in Langdon, ND. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 6:45 p.m. Rosary and 7:00 p.m. prayer service on Tuesday, February 6, 2018, at Brooks Funeral Home in Langdon.
