Donna R. Menzies

Donna Geiger Menzies , formerly of the Hamilton and Cavalier areas died on Friday, September 16, 2005, at Hearthstone Unit of 4000 ValleySquare, Grand Forks., where she had lived since June of 2003. Donna was born March 25, 1921, in Grand Forks, ND, to Elmer and Clara (Zeller) Geiger. She grew up on the family farm south of Hamilton and graduated from Hamilton High School where she was active in band and basketball. Donna marrried Roy C. Menzies on November 19, 1941, in Neche, ND. They farmed together and raised their family southeast of Hamilton where Donna continued to live until ill health caused her to enter a nursing facility.
Donna is survived by daughter, Rita (Tom) Vaughn and son, Lee (Dawn) Menzies, all of Cavalier, seven grandchildren, Andrea Westman Brinkman, Mountain Lake, MN, Brad Westman, Grand Forks, ND, Cole Vaughn, Colorado Springs, CO, David Vaughn and Craig Vaughn , Cavalier, Kate Menzies and Amanda Menzies , Cavalier, and one great grandson. Donna is also survived by a sister, Doris Braden, Snohomish, WA.
Donna was preceded in death by her husband, Roy in 1981, daughter, Sherry Menzies Westman in 1984, her parents, brother, Clayton (Sonny) Geiger, and sister, Vergil Ann Magnusson.
Donna loved being a homemaker, and was a fabulous cook. She was very active in her church, Hamilton United Methodist, where she served in many capacities. She was also a member of the Hamilton Homemaker Club. She loved her family and her Lord.
Funeral service will be held Tuesday, September 20, 2005, at 2:00 p.m. at the Cavalier Presbyterian Church, Cavalier, ND. Visitation will be held Monday, September 19th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Jensen-Askew Funeral Home, Cavalier, ND. Visitation at the church for one hour before the time of services. Burial in the Hamilton Cemetery.
