Donald "Bud" Clairmont

Donald E. (Bud) Clairmont, 89, Walhalla, passed away on Tuesday, January 9, 2018, at the Pembina County Memorial Hospital surrounded by his children.

Donald was born April 17, 1928, to Emil and Mae (Bisenius) Clairmont at his parents farm in rural Walhalla. He grew up in the Poplar Grove area west of Walhalla where he attended the Loam Twp. and Carrier grade schools. As a young man, he began farming with his parents well before graduating from Park River Agricultural School in 1947.

He married Beverly Ireland on October 8, 1951, at Olga, ND. They made their home in the Poplar Grove area where they farmed and raised their four children. While farming he also worked for Cavalier County loading gravel and hauling chips for road repair in the summers and piloting the county snow plow in the winters. After retiring in 1990, they moved their home into Walhalla where Bud became active with the Walhalla Park Board and city tree committee.

He is survived by his children, Spencer (Bev) Clairmont of Walhalla; Jill (Mark) Nelson of Fessenden; Jodi (Mike) Bresnahan of Minneapolis; and Margo (Paul) Ames of Fargo, twelve grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Gloria Gendreau, of Walhalla, and his brother, Bill (Pat) Clairmont, of Bismarck.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Beverly, in 1997, his parents, his siblings Delores Generous, infant Gloria Ann, LaRae Hornung, Jack, Leo, and Ray Clairmont, two grandchildren, and four great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 5-7 pm Sunday, January 14, at the St Boniface Catholic Church, Walhalla, ND followed by a prayer service at 7:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, January 15, at 10:30 at the church. Burial will be held at the St. Boniface Catholic cemetery at a later date.
