Don Allen Vejtasa, 77, of Cavalier, ND passed away Wednesday, August 26, 2015, at the Good Samaritan Home, in Larimore, ND. A graveside service with military rites will be held on Sunday, August 30, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at the Silvesta Cemetery, northeast of Fairdale, ND on Walsh County 7.
Don was born January 4, 1938, at Fairdale, ND to Frank and Ethel (Haug) Vejtasa. He grew up in Fairdale and graduated from Fairdale High School in 1956. In 1962, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. He worked for the Walsh County Highway Department and later in the Wyoming oil fields. After moving to Alaska, he worked as an offshore derrick hand for Parker Drilling. When he returned to North Dakota, he had a backhoe business for a number of years. Don drove a semi for Cenex Harvest States until he retired in 2000.
Don was an avid hunter and outdoorsman. He loved hunting, fishing, trapping and practiced taxidermy taught to him by his father. He grew hard neck garlic at his favorite place, a farmstead in St. Peter Coulee on Walsh County 11. He was a vendor at the Farmer's Market in Grand Forks for 20 years selling garlic, potatoes, raspberries and other fruits and vegetables.
Survivors include his life partner, Holly Parenteau; sons: Kevin and Craig Vejtasa, both of Grand Forks, ND; grandsons: Nicholas, Tyler, and Dalton; great-granddaughter, Addison; sister, Lois Severson, Grand Forks, ND; sister-in-law, Aneta Vejtasa, Adams, ND; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents; brother, Armand; infant brother, Frank; sister, Dorothy Ellison; brother-in-law, Miles Ellison.
