Dennis Hansel, 81, passed away on Monday, May 18, 2026, at Mayo Clinic Methodist Hospital in Rochester, MN.
Dennis Joseph Hansel was born on January 30, 1945, in Langdon, ND, to Anna Mae and Joseph Hansel. He grew up in Langdon and graduated from St. Alphonsus High School in 1962. Shortly after, he joined the U.S. Army, serving in Thailand in communications. Following his military service, he returned to Langdon and began a long and dedicated career with United Telephone Company, where he worked from 1970 until his retirement in 2014.
On February 22, 1969, Dennis married the love of his life, Drina, at St. Alphonsus Church in Langdon. Beginning in the early 1980s, he became active in Eastern Star and the Masons. He was also a devoted and well‑loved Shriner with the KEM Temple, where he proudly served as Potentate in 2012. Dennis found great joy in serving on committees, attending ceremonies and events, participating in parades, and traveling to Imperial Session. His commitment to service and community was a defining part of his life.
Dennis is survived by his daughter, Stephanie (Blair Seelhammer) of Rochester, MN; grandchildren: Taylor, Jaxon, and Julia Seelhammer of Rochester, MN; siblings Wayne (Debbie) Hansel, Mary Lou (Tom) Lorenz, Robert (Stephanie) Hansel, Patsy (Garold) Vaagen, and Jerry (Denise) Hansel; sisters‑in‑law Karen Hansel and Pauline Hansel; brother‑in‑law Ron Lenz; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Drina; his parents, Anna Mae and Joseph; his brothers: James, Rodger, Paul, and Danny; and his sister, Shirley.
There will be a Masonic Service at 2:30 p.m. on June 5, 2026, at Lebanon Lodge in Langdon, ND. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 with a 7:00 p.m. Time of Sharing on Thursday, June 4, 2026, also at the Lebanon Lodge. Burial will be Calvary Cemetery in Langdon.
In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family asks that memorials be directed to Shriner’s Children’s Hospital in honor of Dennis Hansel.
