Delores Greenwood,97, of Roseville, Minnesota and formerly of Cavalier, ND passed away Sunday, May 11 at the Cerenity Care Center in St. Paul, MN. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the Cavalier Presbyterian Church, Cavalier, ND, visitation will be held at the church for one hour before the time of services.
Delores was born August 5, 1927, to Freeman and Emeline (Strong) Hall. She was raised on the family farm south of Walhalla, homesteaded by her grandparents Josiah and Mary Jane Strong. She attended country school at Hilltop, high school in Walhalla, boarding with Hector and Ethyl Johnstone (cousin to Delores), and then graduating from Park River High School. Delores continued her education at North Dakota State University and Dakota Business college. She taught at a country school for one year.
On June 26, 1949, Delores married Harold McIver Greenwood in the Walhalla Presbyterian Church. They made their home in Backoo, North Dakota. After the death of her husband in 1970, Delores moved to Cavalier and resided there until moving to the Twin Cities in 2017.
Delores was active in the Backoo Homemakers Club, the American Legion Auxiliary, Eastern Star and was a member of the Cavalier Presbyterian Church where she served as church secretary. She also worked at the Cedar Inn in Cavalier and devoted many hours to volunteering at the Presbyterian Thrift Store.
Like all good Icelanders, Delores baked a delicious Vinarterta, enjoyed by friends and family.
Surviving Delores are her children: Diane (Stephen Muscanto) of Roseville, MN, Carol Berg, North Oaks, MN, and Janet (David) Bell of Pinehurst, NC; Grandchildren David Muscanto, Michael (Lucie) Muscanto, Isaac Muscanto, Gretchen Berg, Meghan Berg, Amy Bell, Andrew Bell and Timothy Bell; great-granddaughter Isabel Muscanto, sister-in-law, Loretta Hall, niece Doreen Tepper (D’Heilly) and close family friends, Roger and Rita Kihne.
Delores was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Harold, son-in-law, John Berg, sister, Vivian D’Heilly and brother, Luverne Hall.
