Clarice Ring

Clarice Ring, 91, of Langdon, ND passed away Saturday, June 4, 2016 at Maple Manor Care Center in Langdon, ND.

Clarice Hjelmstad was born May 29, 1925 to Anton and Anna (Nelson) Hjelmstad on the family farm near Milton, ND. She was educated in the Milton area and graduated from Langdon High School in 1944. During her high school years, she lived with the Brooks family in Langdon and cared for their children. After graduation, she went to Mayville State Teacher’s College for six weeks and earned her teaching certificate. Clarice married William Ring on June 10, 1945 in Milton, ND. She taught in Vang and at South Dresden #1 before the teaching requirements changed. Clarice then worked at the Republican as a proofreader. In the 1980s, she started working at the Cavalier County Library. She was a library assistant and led story hour for close to 30 years until retiring in 2003.

Clarice was an avid reader and truly enjoyed her job at the library. She loved having coffee and walking with her friends. She would often play cribbage with friends and family. Clarice was a member of the Homemakers, Friends of the Library, and Emmanuel Evangelical Church in Langdon.

Surviving Clarice are her children: Richard (Karen) Ring of Langdon and Mary Lou Ring of Rochester, MN; grandchildren: Nathan (Kathy), Philip (Brittany), Steven (Kelly), and Ryan (Hailey); great-grandchildren: William, Keaton, Andrew, Kaetlyn, Leela, Harper, Izzy, Judd and Mason; and sister Gladys (Harlan) Hanson of Milton, ND. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband William, and siblings: Myrtle Slama, Helen Holo, Alvin Hjelmstad, and Ruth Koehn.

Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 8, 2016 at Emmanuel Evangelical Church in Langdon. Visitation will take place on Tuesday, June 7 from 5-7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 prayer service at Brooks Funeral Home in Langdon and for one hour prior to service time at the church on Wednesday. Interment will be at Lebanon Cemetery, Langdon, ND.
