Anna Mae Hansel

November 14, 1925 — November 21, 2017

Anna Mae Hansel, 92, of Langdon, ND, passed away Tuesday, November 21, 2017, at Maple Manor Care Center in Langdon.

Anna Mae Koehmstedt was born November 14, 1925, to Victor and Gladys (Howatt) Koehmstedt in Maida, ND. When Anna Mae was 9, her mother passed away and being the oldest of six children, she became the main caregiver. She was able to attend the Maida country school and then worked for room and board in Langdon so she could attend school, graduating from Langdon High School in 1943. Anna Mae and Joseph Hansel were married on November 3, 1943 in Mt. Carmel, ND. They farmed and raised their eleven children on the family farm southwest of Langdon in Perry Township. Anna Mae also worked for Panam Electric during the early 1970’s and sold Stanley products for many years . She moved in to Langdon in the early 2000s and lived independently until 2014 when she moved to Maple Manor Care Center. Anna Mae enjoyed knitting, making caps and mittens for many of the grandchildren, crocheting, playing bingo and bonko. She loved to visit and talk to people. She was a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Langdon, ND.

Anna Mae is survived by her children: Dennis (Drina) of Langdon, Wayne (Debbie) of Charleston, SC, Mary Lou (Tom) Lorenz of Brainerd, MN, Robert (Stephanie) of Littleton, CO, Paul of Langdon, Patsy (Garold) Vaagen of Harwood, ND, Danny (Pauline) of Gilby, ND, Jerry (Denise) of Mulvane, KS; 33 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; foster child Wayne Skaro of Grand Forks, ND; son-in-law Ron Lenz; daughter-in-law Karen Hansel; and sister Helen Haaven of Grand Forks, ND. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Joseph; children: Roger Hansel, James Hansel, and Shirley Lenz; foster child Harvey Skaro; and siblings: Verna Kartes, Marjorie Coyle, Ole Koehmstedt, and Eleanor Hardigree.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 25, 2017, at St. Alphonsus Parish Center in Langdon, ND. Visitation will take place from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 Rosary and prayer service on Friday, November 24, 2017, at the St. Alphonsus Parish Center. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Langdon, ND.
