Allan D. Mathison, 87, of Walhalla, ND died Saturday, July 4, 2009, at the Pembilier Nursing Center, Walhalla. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, July 7, 2009, at 10:30 a.m. at the Walhalla Lutheran Church, Walhalla, ND. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to the Walhalla Lutheran Piano Fund. Burial in the Hillside Cemetery, Walhalla, ND.
Allan D. Mathison was born March 11, 1922, at Walhalla, ND to John and Minnie (Thompson) Mathison. He grew up in the Walhalla area where he attended the Hilltop and Walhalla School. In 1942, he began his service with the Fourth Division of the U.S. Marine Corps. During that time he served in Saipan, Iwo Jima, the Tinian and Marshall Islands. Following his discharge in 1945, Allan returned to Walhalla and worked 48 years with the ND State Seed Department as a potato inspector, and also farmed in the Leroy area.
On December 2, 1945, he married Deloris McNamara at Long Beach, CA. She survives as do his children, Audrey Beauchamp, West Fargo, ND, Brian (Anita) Mathison and Corliss (Phil) Longtin, all of Walhalla, grandchildren, Becky (Joel) Grasl, Katie (Mike) Dietz; Seth, Michael, Bryce, and Morgan Mathison; Darrin (Lori), Andrea, and Jeramy Longtin, great grandchildren, Kijia and Malia Dietz, and Jacob Grasl, and sister-in-law, Alma Mathison, Walhalla, ND.
He was an active member of Walhalla Lutheran, and also a member of the Bartlette-Resler Post # 62, Walhalla American Legion, Pembina County Legion Association, V.F.W., Forty and Eight Veterans Society. Allan also served as Department Commander of the American Legion from 1988 thru 1989.
Preceding him in death were his parents, son-in-law, Greg Beauchamp, brothers, Alfred, James, and Lloyd, and sister, Thelma Harvey.
